Description

Ajarn Nut | BE 2560 (2017) | 59 Normal + 10 Large VIP Made | Size: VIP: 7.9 x 4.8 cm | Normal : 5.2 x 3.4 cm

Not every strong old piece needs a list of twenty or thirty materials. This old Ajarn Nut Black Gold Wood Khun Paen from 2017 is actually very simple.

Ajarn Nut carved the entire Khun Paen individually from Black Gold Wood. Underneath, he added pure Lukkok powder together with a Takrut Yant Hua Jai Khun Paen. Very few main materials, but nothing here is random.

More importantly, the pieces available to us now did not leave the samnak back in 2017. Ajarn Nut kept these pieces personally and only released them to us recently.

A Whole Khun Paen Carved From Black Gold Wood

Black Gold Wood, also commonly known as Penawar Hitam, is an unusual naturally dark wood. It has long carried its own place in regional spiritual beliefs.

Traditionally, people associate the wood with attracting wealth, prosperity and good luck. They also keep it for strengthening personal energy and protecting both the owner and household. In addition, traditional beliefs associate it with protection against black magic, malicious intentions, harmful spiritual influences and unwanted spirits.

What makes this release much more interesting is how Ajarn Nut used it. He did not simply grind the Black Gold Wood into powder and mix it into the amulet. Nor did he insert a small chip somewhere at the back. He carved the entire Khun Paen itself from the wood.

Ajarn Nut carved each piece individually instead of pressing them from one mould. Therefore, differences in grain, outline and smaller carving details are normal. Every piece naturally has its own appearance.

If It Repels Spirits, What About the Lukkok?

This is one common misconception with Black Gold Wood and certain other protective materials. It especially matters for people who already keep prai or other spiritual items.

In traditional belief, Black Gold Wood protects against harmful, malicious or unwanted influences. This does not simply mean driving away every spiritual presence around the owner without distinction.

This Khun Paen itself makes that quite easy to understand. If Black Gold Wood simply chased away every spirit, Ajarn Nut filling the same amulet with pure Lukkok powder would make absolutely no sense.

Pure Lukkok Powder – Not Just One Ingredient in a Long List

The bottom of each piece contains pure Lukkok powder, together with a Takrut Yant Hua Jai Khun Paen.

This is not a case where Lukkok appears somewhere in a long ingredients list alongside twenty other powders. Instead, Lukkok powder itself fills the cavity.

That distinction matters because Lukkok is straight-up prai. It carries a much harder reputation than ordinary auspicious powders. Traditionally, people associate Lukkok with strong assistance in wealth, opportunities, attraction, favour, business and protection. It also carries the more forceful character normally connected with powerful prai.

The takrut beside it also ties directly to Khun Paen. Yant Hua Jai Khun Paen, or the Heart of Khun Paen yant, belongs directly to Khun Paen wicha. Traditionally, it is associated with metta, attraction, favour and personal magnetism.

So even though the materials list is short, the construction is very focused. The entire body is Black Gold Wood. Meanwhile, the bottom carries pure Lukkok powder together with a yant directly tied to Khun Paen himself.

Why Lukkok Inside a Khun Paen Makes Sense

Khun Paen was never simply a figure associated with attraction or women. In the old Khun Chang Khun Phaen story, he was a warrior deeply connected with magic, yants, spells and occult knowledge. His story also contains the famous Kuman Thong episode.

Lukkok is not Kuman Thong, and we should not treat the two as the same thing. However, strong prai material inside a Khun Paen is hardly out of character with the older occult side of Khun Paen.

More importantly, Ajarn Nut placed that pure Lukkok powder directly beside a Takrut Yant Hua Jai Khun Paen. The prai material and Khun Paen element therefore have a clear connection within the same piece.

59 Normal Pieces – But They Were Never Common

Ajarn Nut made only 59 pieces of the normal version in BE 2560.

Even that number can be misleading if you do not know how they appeared over the years. Ajarn Nut did not release all 59 together as one normal batch and leave them freely circulating on the market.

Instead, he kept many pieces back. From time to time, he added individual examples into special pims and batches of other Ajarn Nut amulets. So although 59 normal pieces existed, only a portion appeared openly at any one time.

Each normal piece also carries its own serial number. The piece available here is no. 52.

That already made them relatively difficult to come across years ago. Now, around nine years after the original release, finding one separately has naturally become much harder.

Kept Personally by Ajarn Nut Until Recently

This is where the pieces available now become even more interesting. Ajarn Nut kept these among his personal pieces instead of releasing them shortly after the 2017 batch. He only released them to us recently.

Visually, they remain the same Black Gold Wood Khun Paen from BE 2560. The difference is what happened after Ajarn Nut made them.

They stayed with Ajarn Nut for years longer, around his regular chanting and blessings. They did not leave the samnak back in 2017. From the traditional amulet perspective, these pieces therefore had a much longer period of accumulated chanting and blessing than examples released outside much earlier.

Two pieces from the same batch may look almost identical, but their history after release can be very different. These particular pieces spent far more time with their maker before he finally released them.

A Larger, More Detailed VIP – Only 10 Made

Apart from the 59 normal pieces, Ajarn Nut also made a separate large VIP version of only 10 pieces.

The VIP is not simply the normal piece made slightly bigger. It is noticeably larger, more detailed, and carries more Lukkok material than the normal version. That pushes the VIP further into the prai side of the release while also giving the carving much more presence.

The difference is easy to see when both versions sit together. The larger body gave Ajarn Nut more room for finer carving and additional detail. At the same time, the heavier Lukkok content made the VIP the more elaborate prai version of the two.

Ajarn Nut made only 10 VIP pieces in total, and collectors already almost never saw them even when the release was new. So this is not something that only became rare with age. The larger, more detailed version was extremely limited from the beginning.

Individually Hand-Carved, Not Moulded

Ajarn Nut carved each Khun Paen individually from natural wood, so no two pieces look perfectly identical. Differences in grain, outline and smaller carving details come naturally with this handmade release. They are not defects or inconsistencies.

The amulet is also a nice practical size for wearing or carrying. It is relatively flat and compact despite the solid wood construction. Therefore, it does not have the bulk of many thicker Khun Paens.

I have also included a photograph showing the bottom before casing. The casing now makes both the contents and serial number difficult to see clearly. The earlier photo gives a much clearer view of the pure Lukkok powder, Takrut Yant Hua Jai Khun Paen and serial no. 52.

It may look simple, but there is very little ordinary about it. This is a 2017 Ajarn Nut Khun Paen carved entirely from Black Gold Wood, with pure Lukkok powder and Yant Hua Jai Khun Paen inside. This particular piece carries serial no. 52 and came directly from Ajarn Nut’s personally kept stock.
