Description
Ajarn Tom | BE 254X–255X (Estimated) | Size: 17 × 10 × 7.1 cm (Height × Base Width × Base Depth)
Keeping multiple Prai is one thing. Having the authority to control them is another. For those who keep Prai, spirits and hardcore occult pieces, Lersi Sermingpai is one of the most recommended Lersi to have. According to traditional beliefs, he possesses authority over spirits, helping to control them, strengthen their abilities and prevent them from becoming unruly.
And this particular Bucha isn’t something Ajarn Tom recently made for sale. It could very well be one of the oldest Lersi Buchas from Ajarn Tom still available in the market today.
An Old Bucha We Never Expected to Obtain
We first noticed this Lersi Sermingpai during one of our earliest visits to Ajarn Tom’s Samnak for his Wai Kru ceremony. It was hidden inside his cave, almost buried among the many other Lersi Buchas he had accumulated over the years.
At that time, we didn’t even bother taking proper close-up photographs. These were Buchas from his personal collection, and we never imagined he would consider letting any of them go. The older photographs show the Buchas inside his Samnak before he reorganised the area.
Things only changed when Ajarn Tom decided to renovate and reorganise his Samnak. He moved many of the old Buchas out of the cave. Some went to other locations, while a small number eventually entered a separate cabinet for sale. This Lersi Sermingpai was one of them.
Anyone familiar with Ajarn Tom will know that he specialises in large Buchas. He rarely makes smaller pieces like this, which already makes this one interesting. At just 17 cm tall, this Bucha also suits collectors who want an altar piece without needing much space.
But what really caught our attention was how old it could be.
Based on its appearance and history, we believe it may date back to his earliest years as an Ajarn. It could even come from the period when he was still practising as a monk. We estimate its production period to be around BE 254X–255X, although we cannot confirm the exact year.
Nevertheless, this Bucha had remained in his Samnak for many years, possibly ten years or considerably longer. During that time, it would have been present for numerous ceremonies, rituals and blessings.
Just imagine how many Wai Kru ceremonies, rituals and blessings this old Lersi would have witnessed over those years.
Old Prai Materials, Repairs & Years of Exposure
Due to its age, we cannot confirm every material Ajarn Tom originally used to make this Bucha. However, its appearance and exposed sections suggest a mixture of coffin wood, cemetery soil, Prai materials and other traditional occult ingredients.
What makes it more interesting is the additional Prai-related materials found in different sections of the Bucha. These include Prai powder, Nam Man Prai, Prai wax and other ingredients associated with Ajarn Tom’s practices.
The arms also show signs of repairs, and these sections contain additional Prai-related materials. This makes the repaired areas particularly interesting, rather than merely cosmetic.
On the underside of the base, we can also see two takruts and a miniature Lersi Sian amulet embedded into the Bucha.
Over the years, this Bucha has endured countless thunderstorms, heavy rain and even flooding inside Ajarn Tom’s Samnak. Naturally, it is far from perfect. The surface shows visible ageing, wear, damage and repairs.
This is not a Bucha for someone who expects something new, clean and flawless. But for collectors who appreciate old occult pieces, the age, materials and history are precisely what make it interesting.
You can commission another Lersi Bucha with similar materials. However, you cannot recreate the years this particular piece has already spent inside Ajarn Tom’s own Samnak.
Lersi Sermingpai – Authority Over Prai & Spirits
Lersi Sermingpai is traditionally associated with occult knowledge, spirits, supernatural authority and the control of spiritual entities. Ajarns and practitioners who deal with Prai and other occult practices hold him in particularly high regard.
According to traditional beliefs, Lersi Sermingpai possesses great authority over spirits. He can control and command them, maintain order and prevent them from becoming unruly. This is why practitioners especially recommend him to those who keep multiple Prai.
For someone who keeps many spirits, obtaining more powerful Prai isn’t always the answer. Having the authority to control the spirits already under one’s care is just as important.
Lersi Sermingpai is believed to maintain order among these spirits, strengthen their abilities and improve their assistance to the owner. In simple terms, he acts like a governing authority overseeing the spirits and keeping them under control.
Some occult traditions also attribute to him the ability to summon wandering spirits from the surrounding area. These spirits may then assist with wealth, protection, business opportunities and other requests.
Apart from his authority over Prai, devotees also worship him for protection against black magic, evil spirits and malicious people. Traditional beliefs further associate him with wealth, main and side income, personal authority, guidance and success.
Although particularly suitable for those who keep Prai, ordinary devotees can also worship Lersi Sermingpai at home. Some regard him as a spiritual teacher, or Kru, and seek his guidance and protection in daily life.
Why Does This Lersi Sermingpai Look Different?
Most collectors today recognise Lersi Sermingpai through his tiger-headed appearance. These depictions usually feature a human ascetic’s body with the head of a tiger.
Some show him seated upon rocks or skulls, occasionally holding a book or skull. The tiger-headed appearance traditionally represents ferocity, authority and control over spirits.
This particular Bucha, however, depicts Lersi Sermingpai in human form, as an elderly ascetic with a long beard. It has a much simpler appearance compared to the tiger-headed versions commonly seen today. This is another detail that makes the old Bucha particularly interesting.

This is one of those pieces we never expected to obtain when we first saw it inside Ajarn Tom’s cave. It may not be in perfect condition, but that was never the reason we were interested in it.
What makes this Bucha special is its age, materials and history. We saw it among his personal collection years ago, never expecting him to release it.
Now, only one Bucha remains available. Once it goes, we cannot say whether another old Lersi Sermingpai with a similar history will ever become available again.
