Description
Ajarn Meng | BE 2550/2551 (approx.) | Size: 28.5 × 21 cm (approx.)
Ever tried getting close to someone, only to find that no matter what you do, they just aren’t interested? Or spent hours talking to customers, only for them to walk away without buying anything? Sometimes, it’s not about how much effort you put in. Without attraction, favour or the ability to influence others, even a good opportunity can slip through your hands.
This is one reason Khun Paen magic has remained popular for generations. Love, women, sexual attraction and Maha Saneh are what most people associate with Khun Paen. However, the old traditions also cover wealth, luck, business, courage and protection.
This particular Ajarn Meng Khun Paen Phayant comes with something we value just as much as its age. We obtained it directly from Ajarn Nut, a disciple of Ajarn Meng, who had personally kept it for more than 10 years. It wasn’t something we picked up from another dealer. It came from someone who had studied under the master himself.
Ajarn Meng — A Master of Thai & Burmese Occult Magic
Ajarn Meng, also known as Ajarn Meng Khun Paen, is an old-school Thai lay master particularly known for his knowledge of Khun Paen, Maha Saneh and Burmese occult magic. His background is rather different from someone who simply learned a few yants before making amulets for sale.
According to his published biography, Ajarn Meng began learning occult magic at just 14 years old. His first teacher was Ajarn Chalaem, who taught him the traditions of Rak Yom and Kumantong. These involved spirit-related practices, including the making and consecration of spirit amulets.
He later studied under several other masters, including Luang Tiaw of Wat Klang Na, Luang Por Noi of Wat Sam Thai and Luang Por Mee of Wat Marawichai. His studies covered spirit magic, Maha Saneh, protection, meditation, sacred yants and other branches of traditional occult knowledge.
Luang Por Mee was particularly important in his training. The old account describes how Ajarn Meng learned advanced meditation, sacred yants and Lersi-related practices from him. Luang Por Mee even allowed him to gather sacred materials and herbs for the making of Khun Paen amulets.
However, one of the most interesting parts of Ajarn Meng’s background came later, when he studied under Sayagway, a Burmese lay master.
The Burmese Connection
Under Sayagway, Ajarn Meng studied Burmese traditions involving Maha Saneh, attraction, luck, ritual oils, sacred materials, spirit-related practices and talismanic magic.
These weren’t limited to ordinary love charms. The teachings also covered methods of gaining favour, drawing affection, improving fortune and making different types of talismans and takruts. According to his biography, some of the yantras remained restricted to disciples within the master’s circle.
Ajarn Meng was already experienced in Thai occult magic before studying under Sayagway. Therefore, the Burmese teachings added another branch to what he had learned over the years.
This is also why Ajarn Meng matters to collectors of older Khun Paen amulets. His background wasn’t built around Khun Paen alone. He had studied attraction, spirit magic, protection and other traditions under different teachers, both Thai and Burmese. His name became especially associated with Maha Saneh, and older collector records show that his Khun Paen amulets were already circulating well before 2010.
An Old Burmese-Style Khun Paen Phayant
This Ajarn Meng Khun Paen Phayant carries a rather distinctive design. Khun Paen sits in the centre with his palms pressed together, surrounded by extensive Burmese-style inscriptions. Two numerical yantra grids appear on either side, while more writing runs along the edges of the cloth.
Unlike the more familiar Thai Khun Paen amulets, the Burmese influence is particularly noticeable here. The cloth is filled with inscriptions rather than simply displaying an image of Khun Paen.
Traditionally, Khun Paen is associated with love, women, attraction, courage and mastery of occult magic. His legend also involves warfare, protection and the ability to overcome enemies and difficult situations.
This explains why people seek Khun Paen for more than romantic matters. Attraction and sexual appeal are important, but so are gaining favour, improving business dealings, drawing wealth and protecting oneself against danger.
For someone struggling in love, the intention is to attract attention, affection and desire. For those dealing with customers or employers, the traditional purpose includes gaining goodwill, improving negotiations and opening up opportunities. Meanwhile, the protective side of Khun Paen concerns avoiding danger, surviving difficult situations and having the courage to face trouble.
Kept by Ajarn Nut for More Than 10 Years
Now, this is where the history of our particular piece becomes interesting.
We obtained this phayant directly from Ajarn Nut, who is a disciple of Ajarn Meng. Ajarn Nut had personally kept it with him for over 10 years before passing it to us.
With older amulets and phayants, knowing where a piece came from matters. Many have passed through different collectors and dealers over the years. Some have little history beyond what the seller claims.
In this case, we know who kept it and where we obtained it. The piece came from Ajarn Meng’s own disciple, rather than through an unknown chain of previous owners.
The cloth still carries its old printed design, together with the folds and signs of long-term storage. We have also included photographs of both the front and reverse, so collectors can examine its actual condition.
Older dealer references place Ajarn Meng’s Khun Paen Phayant around BE 2550/2551. The exact release year of this particular piece remains unconfirmed, so we have retained both years as an approximate reference.
For those collecting older Ajarn Meng amulets, the fact that this phayant had remained with his own disciple for more than a decade is a meaningful part of its history.
