The Hoon Payon is one of the most well-known spirit guardians in Thai spiritual practice. In the Saiyasart circle, it is often seen as a spirit bodyguard or servantβsometimes classified as a deva, sometimes as a ghost, but always a being of protection and power. Similar to how Khun Paen or Kumantong can exist in both mainstream and prai forms, the Hoon Payon also has many variations. In Japanese culture, the closest comparison is the Shikigami, but the Thai version is far more versatileβcrafted from a wide range of materials such as wood, cloth, clay, wax, metal, or even sacred earth.
The word βPayonβ literally means something βbrought to lifeβ by a masterβs wicca. This can be a form of animal, giant, angel, or in this caseβhuman. While some are made from simple vines, soil, or copper, others, like this Ghost Rider edition, go far deeper by actually binding a spirit into the figure, instead of just conjuring one. Through the layers of sacred material wrapped around its form, the spirit is invited, infused, and sealed within the pieceβturning it into a living spiritual weapon.
For many, the most important effect in todayβs modern world is its ability to repel and reflect backstabbers (ε°δΊΊ). Beyond just esoteric powers, it has become a very practical form of protection in first-world countries, guarding oneβs career, business, and personal life from betrayal and unseen harm.
This particular Ghost Rider batch by Ajarn Diaw, direct lineage of the same teacher as Kruba Thep, is considered one of the finest modern creationsβtraditionally consecrated, highly potent, yet extremely affordable compared to other rare spiritual works. At 14 cm tall, it is compact enough to be displayed at home, in an office, or shop, while also sturdy and durableβunlike some Hoon Payon made of fragile materials.
A piece that is both collectible and functional, it blends practical protection with deep spiritual power.
