Mae Per, also known as “Eper,” is a spirit of the locality, revered as the divine mother and symbolizing fertility, prosperity, and attraction. While online sources sometimes describe Mae Per as an Indian tantric goddess who met her end during childbirth, the Khmer legend offers a more profound and timeless perspective.

The origins of Mae Per’s magic dates back to a distant past, and her story is deeply rooted in the spiritual traditions of Cambodia. It was said that she was once a beautiful young woman, the daughter of a local merchant. Mae Per frequently assisted her mother at the market, where she excelled at sales, drawing attention with her charm and grace.

One fateful day, when Mae Per’s mother had to leave the market, she entrusted her daughter to watch over the store. As the day went on, the shop remained empty, and Mae Per eventually succumbed to sleep. In the silence of her slumber, a group of men passing by became captivated by her.
